Studio Ghibli’s signature animation style has taken social media by storm, and now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become part of the trend. The Indian government recently released a collection of AI-generated images that turn key moments from Modi’s political career into beautifully illustrated frames reminiscent of classic Japanese animation. With soft pastel colors and a whimsical touch, these images give a fresh artistic spin to real-life events.
One of the most talked-about artworks shows Modi with former US President Donald Trump, while another captures his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, symbolizing the close ties between India and France. The French Embassy in India reshared the Macron-Modi illustration, calling it a tribute to the strong friendship between the two nations.
Other images include Modi standing before the Sengol, the historic sceptre placed in the new Parliament building in 2023, and another where he is seen wearing an Indian Army uniform, standing tall with the Tricolor waving behind him. Even the Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony has been transformed into a stunning Ghibli-style piece, turning a historic moment into an artistic masterpiece.
While Modi is present in all the artworks, MyGov India’s post made it clear that he’s more than just a character in the narrative. “Main character? No. He’s the whole storyline. Experience New India in Studio Ghibli strokes,” read the post, adding an emotional touch to the viral campaign.
Ghibli Trend Explodes in India
It’s not just the government of India jumping on the trend. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also shared a Ghibli-style animated video of himself on social media, amazed at how technology is evolving.
Bollywood isn’t staying behind either—big names like Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Maddock Films have jumped on the trend, turning their movie posters into Ghibli-style artworks.
But Where Did It All Begin?
This whole Ghibli obsession started when OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o update made it super easy to create images in that dreamy, pastel animation style. Not to be left behind, Elon Musk’s Grok AI tried doing the same, though its results aren’t quite as sharp. Even OpenAI boss Sam Altman couldn’t resist—he went ahead and turned his profile pic on X into a Ghibli-style version of himself.
From politics to movies, the Ghibli wave is everywhere. Whether you’re into Modi’s big moments or just a sucker for Miyazaki’s magic, this trend is turning the internet into a scene straight out of a storybook.
