Since March 25, when ChatGPT got an upgrade with a new image-making tool powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, many people have used it in India. Individuals ranging from celebrities and sports personalities to common people have paid the firm to transform their real-life images into Ghibli art. Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), said that India is the firm’s fastest-growing market.
Over 130 million users have made well over 700 million pictures with it.
Brad Lightcap has revealed this in his X post, stating that, “Very crazy first week for images in ChatGPT; over 130M users have generated 700M+ images since last Tuesday. India is now our fastest-growing ChatGPT market. The range of visual creativity has been extremely inspiring.”
He further added that, “We appreciate your patience as we try to serve everyone; the team continues to work around the clock.”
Even on 2nd April, the firm’s CEO, Sam Altman, has appreciated India on his X post, stating that, “What’s happening in India right now is wonderful to watch. We love to see the exploration of creativity. India is outpacing the world.”
Sam Altman has also noticed that over 130 million people have made well over 700 million images using the ChatGPT-4o image version-1 feature. Apart from that, he has also noticed that India is growing as the fastest in using ChatGPT.
This big growth is happening at the same time that OpenAI and another company, Meta, are talking to Reliance Industries, a huge Indian company, about working together. One of the major reasons behind it could be that Reliance Jio, a part of Reliance that provides phone and internet services, might help share ChatGPT with more people in India.
The firm is also considering lowering its ChatGPT from $20 a month to just a few dollars. The reduction could make it way cheaper for people in India, where many are careful about spending money and using it. However, it’s unclear whether they have discussed this price reduction with Reliance yet. But if the firm implements this plan, the possibility is that more people in India will start using ChatGPT.
Furthermore, on 2nd April, Sam Altman also hinted at the impending launch of OpenAI’s image version 2.0 following the success of Ghibli Art.
